A brave lad underwent a life-changing experience this week by swearing the Oath of Allegiance and enlisting into the British Army.
Jack Childs, 16, of Leatherhead, will officially join the Parachute Regiment at a ceremony in Aldershot.
The former Howard of Effingham student will be joined by family and friends, as well as seven other new recruits from Surrey.
After pledging their allegiance, the recruits will begin their first-class military and vocational training, helping them to gain the soldiering skills needed for 21st Century warfare.
They will also undergo physical activities designed to help build solid leadership qualities.
These activities include rock climbing, caving and orienteering.
Major Charles Grieve, recruiting officer, said: “This is an historic day for the young recruits and their families as they take their first steps towards their career with the Army.
“I wish them great success in their training and career.”
There are 140 trades in the Army and more than 10,000 jobs on offer.
Jobs on offer include careers in combat, engineering, logistics and supply, intelligence, IT and communications, human resources and finance, medical, musical and ceremonial.
