The Metropolitan Police made an early exit from the FA Cup against Premier Division Club Tonbridge Angels on Saturday.

On 39 minutes Lee Minshill for the home side picked up a cross and from the edge of the Police area drove the ball into the far corner of the net for the only goal of the match.

To be fair there were numerous other goal scoring opportunities created by both teams throughout the game.

As early as the 18th minute James Greenaway sent Gary Drewett away with a great forward pass only for Lee Worgan the Angels keeper to just get to the ball first with a high volley well outside his area.

Craig Brown then sent over a good cross into the home side area but alas there was no one there to take advantage.

It was the home side however who had the most blatant misses in the first half. Striker Anthony Storey was inches wide of the far post with a tremendous 18 yard drive.

Worse was to come 5 minutes later when Paul Booth crossed the ball to Jamie Cade who missed an open goal from 6 yards out.

The Police came out showing more determination in the second half but found themselves without their captain Steve Sutherland who pulled out injured at half time.

Ron Edwards replaced Sutherland and was unlucky when his early effort was just cleared. Craig Carley then headed the ball back to Rob Smith whose 22 yard drive just shaved the near post. Costly misses.

The Angels came back into the game. Anthony Storey with a header from 7 yards chose to place it straight into the arms of Police goal keeper Mo Maan.

Carl Rook also squandered an easy chance to score as he somehow fired wide on the 6 yard line with an empty goal in front of him. With the game well into stoppage time the Police were still surging up field for the equaliser.

Craig Brown sent over a long high cross into the edge of the home side 6 yards area. There were 3 Police players who could and should have challenged for the ball but alas goal keeper Lee Worgan was allowed to jump and collect the ball all on his own.
