Hi, my name is Sheila Perkins. I and all the residents that live around the Gas Works in Western Road, Mitcham would like to tell you about how Nationalgrid are treating them.
The residents have twice won Planning Applications, once on their own and once with the support of HSE.
Nationagrid went to a Public Enquiry, held during the day, when most of the residents where at work and unable to attend, and won.
Nationalgrid want to have Vehicle Access Points in Portland Road, Seaton Road and Miles Road. These are unnecessary as they have a perfectly adequate entrance and exit in Western Road.
We as residents have written letters, signed petitions and showed in no uncertain terms our thoughts about these access points, but as l say have lost.
It seems that Nationalgrid do not care about the residents, and that worries us when it comes to the cleaning of the site. Having heard about Corby, it is more worrying, as a lot of the poisons contained on this site would be airborne.
Health and Safety advised planners to turned the application down, but to get around this Nationalgrid shuffled the plans about, and got is through. Again this worries us when it comes to the site cleaning. We have schools and hundreds of residents that could be affected.
My main reason for writing this article is to stress that the residents, who live here, DO NOT WANT THE ACCESS POINTS IN THEIR ROADS. Will Nationalgrid listen, NO. The more access points they have the more the value of the land increases.
l do not know how we can change the situation, if at all, but believe me the lives of the residents who live in or by these roads will change for the worse.
Is there anyone out there who WILL LISTEN to the residents?
