A father lashed out at his girlfriend because he had a troubled upbringing and could not cope with family arguments, Kingston Magistrates’ Court heard on Friday, September 11.

Wayne Taylor, 29, admitted assaulting the mother of his child at their home in School Lane, Surbiton, at the start of the summer holidays on July 31.

They argued about when his other children could visit, she grabbed money from him and he injured her wrists. The row was still going on when police arrived.

The couple have since made up and the victim came to court to support him.

Defence solicitor John Middlehurst said he had a “lack of domestic role models during his own upbringing” and lacked the social skills to deal with family life.

He had a poor school attendance but was now working as a roofer and wanted to provide for his three children and three step-children, he added.

Taylor was ordered to do a domestic violence programme and banned from visiting their home in School Lane without her permission. He was fined £85 court costs.
