A die-hard shopper queued for over 13 hours to be the first in line at the opening of an electrical store.
John Doyle, from Sutton, began queueing at 3.30pm on Wednesday, September 9 for the opening of a new Curry’s Megastore in Croydon.
The store did not open until 6am the next day but keen to grab a bargain Mr Doyle braved the cold stone pavement of Purley Way to be the first shopper.
His reward for his dedication was being able to snap up a TV, camcorder and satnav at rock-bottom prices.
He was among 3,000 people who formed the queue outside the new megastore, the largest in London and the second biggest in the UK.
They were waiting for some opening day bargains such as a LG 42" LCD TV for under half price at £289, premium snooper satnavs for £39.99, selling out by 6.30am.
Sean Connor, store director, Currys Croydon: “The response from the local community to the new store opening has been unprecedented with thousands of people through the store doors in the first couple of hours, as well as many queueing overnight.
"As well as giving shoppers great value and a great shopping experience, the store has also created over 75 jobs for the local area and gives local residents the biggest electrical shopping destination in London.”
