A cycle group has organised a special feeder ride from Tooting Broadway to join the Mayor of London’s Skyride on Sunday, September 20.
About 50,000 cyclists are expected to converge on the car-free streets of central London for the Skyride, previously known as the Freewheel, which is expected to be the biggest mass participation cycling event ever held in the capital.
Actress Kelly Brook and London Mayor Boris Johnson will also be at the event.
The feeder ride is one of a series of rides launched as part of Wandsworth Cycle Campaign’s Ting-Ting Tooting.
Ting-Ting Tooting spokes-man Charlie Holland said: “While the Skyride itself is motor-traffic free, it is still a challenge for many inexperienced cyclists to get to its start in central London.
“The feeder ride, marshalled by experienced cyclists, will take the route of the Mayor of London’s cycling superhighway through Tooting for part of the way.
“Hopefully from next May, when the superhighway opens, novice riders will feel comfortable cycling into the heart of the Capital.”
Anyone wanting to join the feeder ride can join the group at Sainsbury’s cycle parking in Salvador, the alley alongside McDonald’s off Tooting Broadway at 10.30am, when the ride will set off.
