Two Sutton dinner ladies are to feature in a national cook book this autumn, after helping to create healthier meals for primary school pupils.
Julie Holt, from Barrow Hedges School, and Terri Philimore, from Foresters School, both won £100 for contributing to the McCain’s Cool School recipe book.
Their culinary creations – vegetable chilli and wedges, and cheesy roast bake – were also selected by Sutton Catering Service for its new school menu.
Other healthy dishes this term include salmon pie, vegetable tartlet and wholemeal French bread.
Since Sutton Catering Service introduced more fruit and vegetables, the number of children choosing school dinners has increased.
The new menus follow Government guidelines in the drive to improve nutritional standards in schools and all fish served is now certified by the Marine Steward’s Council’s Standards, promoting sustainable fishing.
