Every dog has his day, the saying goes, but for one Google employee’s dog he has his own working day.
Eddie, the terrier/whippet cross has become such a part of the furniture at the internet giant’s London HQ he even takes part in meetings, appears in a company video and has even met TV star David Hasslehof when he visited.
Owner facilities manager Jane Preston from Carshalton Beeches took part in the Blue Cross animal charity’s Take Your Dog to Work Day today.
Since starting work at the Google offices six and a half years ago, Mrs Preston said: "I have always brought Eddie to work on Tuesdays and Thursdays.
"Eddie is so much a part of the office now that he accompanies us to our video conferences with the other international offices. He has also starred in one of our internal video presentations, he is a real star.”
"Eddie is so famous in the office that he even has a colour printer named after him called Eddie-color. What is quite amusing is that this printer will be logged under that name among thousands of others at our head office in California.”
“On one particular occasion David Hasslehoff came in to the offices for a chat with the team. The Hoff was surrounded by a large group of adoring fans all eager to catch his attention. Me and Eddie were walking past wondering what all of the commotion was when Eddie suddenly decided to dart towards The Hoff. To my surprise Eddie became the object of The Hoff’s affections, with David making a real fuss of him in front of the entire office - Eddie proved his star credentials again”
And even an office move didn't stop Eddie spending a 9 to 5 day at work from his multi-coloured bean bag.
She said: “Our offices used to be based in Soho so when we moved we had to check with our landlords that dogs would be allowed on the premises. We even have a section in our tenancy agreements outlining our dog policy”.
Mrs Preston said having Eddie in the office helps her and her colleagues to destress.
Mrs Preston actively encourages Blue Cross's fundraising initiative and said: "I would urge anyone who has a well-trained dog to persuade their company to let them bring them in occasionally – Take Your Dog To Work Day is a perfect excuse to try it out".
