With a dangerously dark sky above them, organizers of the Hythe School Family Fun Night could not be blamed for feeling slightly apprehensive of how successful the event was to be. There’s nothing like a grey sky to make a barbeque a little less welcoming.
But the rain thankfully held off, and the large amount of parents, pupils, teachers and friends who attended were, in their bravery, treated to a host of family friendly events.
This included a large tug of war tournament that proved popular with children and adults alike. After several contests that included such matches as “The Underdogs” Vs “The Staines Massive” women were proved to be the strongest after beating the men on more than one occasion!
Other activities included a large rounders match and a performance from some of the school’s strongest singers and dancers as well as a night long barbeque and bar manfully managed by members of the committed PTA who strove to make the event, the first of its kind at the school, a success. “It’s great to see such strong support from all the parents and pupils at the school” quoted Sandra Williams, supporter of the PTA.
Hoards of parents stood round holding juicy burgers and a glass of fresh pimms punch, relaxed, as their children took full advantage of the opportunity to spend their money at the cake stall! Danni Bachmann, a teacher at the school, said “There was a lovely atmosphere – the children loved it” whilst chair of the PTA, Sally Mc Cleery said “It was a fun, relaxed evening”. Overall the evening was a wonderful success for all involved that will hopefully be repeated next year – hopefully with a little more sunshine!
