Two people were injured in a crash at the end of a stretch of road known as the ‘mad mile’.

A man in his 20s and a woman in her 40s were taken by ambulance to St Helier Hospital after the crash at Banstead Crossroads, on the A217, in Banstead.

A spokesman for Surrey Police said: "Shortly before 9.20am this morning Surrey Police was called to the A217 Brighton Road, Banstead following reports of a road traffic collision.

"Two vehicles were involved, a silver Renault Megane and a silver VW Sharan. The drivers of both vehicles suffered minor injuries and were taken to St. Helier hospital, Carshalton.

"The passengers in the VW Sharan, one further adult and three children, were unharmed. The road was closed and re-opened again shortly after 1pm."

A spokesman for South East Coast Ambulance Service said: “Shortly after 9.15am we received a call about a crash on the A217, Banstead. Two patients were taken to St Helier Hospital. They were a woman in her 40s suffering from back and shoulder pains and a man in his 20s with a leg injury. They are not believed to be life-threatening injuries.”
