An abnormal load is being transported through Croydon on three nights from tonight.
A mammoth electricity transformer is being moved from Sundon Substation, north of Luton, to the Beddington Substation in Croydon.
The load, and its trailer, weigh over 250,000 kilos. The total length is over 65 metres (215 feet) and the width and height are over 5 metres (16 feet).
The journey will be in three parts and will be overnight to minimise the impact on other road users, the Highways Agency said.
It starts from Sundon Substation at around 8pm on September 18 to arrive at South Mimms Services at around 1am.
The journey’s second part begins at around 10pm on September 19, from South Mimms Services, to arrive at Clackett Lane Services, M25 at 4am in the morning.
The final part starts at around 10pm on September 20, from Clackett Lane Services, to arrive at Beddington Substation at around 4am in the morning. The load travels on the M25, A22, A23 and B272.
The load will be fully escorted by the police throughout the whole journey.
