A man was attacked with a broken bottle on a Croydon tram stop on Thursday afternoon.

British Transport Police detectives are appealing for witnesses after the man was attacked at Blackhorse Lane tram stop on Thursday, September 17.

Detective Constable Darren Stenning, one of the investigating officers, said: “BTP and Metropolitan Police officers were called to the tram stop around 4.30pm following reports of a disturbance between a group of men.

“Five men from Croydon, aged between 20 and 28, were arrested in connection with the incident.

“One of the arrested men, a 21-year-old, was found to have a cut near to his left eye and a cut near to one of his hips and was taken to hospital by the London Ambulance Service."

The man’s injuries were not described as life-threatening and he was released on bail until Saturday, September 19.

The four other arrested men were released on police bail until early October.

DC Stenning said: “We know from our investigations so far that this happened on a very busy tram and there were a number of people on board who would have witnessed this incident and who we are keen to trace.

“While the investigation is in its early stages, officers are working to establish the exact circumstances surrounding the incident, including how the man came to be injured, and I urge anyone who has any information that could assist our investigation to come forward.”
