Kingston Grammar School (KGS) pupils will take on a fantastical trip through the world of space travel on October 5, when astronautic expert Chris Welch explains the facts and fantasy behind human exploration of the cosmos.
Dr Welch, the principal lecturer in astronautics and space systems at Kingston University, will give an overview of rocket science as well as discussing novel suggestions for the future of space propulsion, such as solar sails.
The talk, which coincides with World Space Week, is the first in a series of planned lectures at the school aimed at promoting science and raising funds to refurbish the institution’s science laboratories.
Irwin Deepchand, head of physics at KGS, said: “This lecture, supported by a small exhibition, should fascinate anyone interested in space and astronautics.”
Tickets are available by calling Debbie Heaney on 020 8939 8820, or emailing dheaney@kgs.org.uk.
