Old or vulnerable people will be targeted in a distraction burglary awareness week, which launches on September 28.
All Elmbridge residents are invited to the event at the Weybridge Centre for Retired People.
Distraction burglars steal from vulnerable people by tricking their way into their homes.
Bogus callers use guises such as calling from the water board, checking the gas meter or just needing to use the loo to make their entrance.
PC Mark Howells said: “Elmbridge is a safe place to live and incidents of distraction burglary are low, but there are a few criminals that target older people and by working together we can reduce the risk of further crimes.”
Trickster, a play showing people how to stay safe from fraudsters, will be performed shortly after the 10.30am launch.
The awareness week will also see door bars, viewers and letterbox cowls fitted free of charge for approximately 25 older in the borough.
A number of displays, information cards and safety talks are to be held, including a talk by Surrey Police.
The week will also see the launch of the Hersham no cold caller zone and it is hoped it will encourage older residents to carry out good doorstep procedures.
You can contact your local PCSO for an information card or the Crime Reduction Adviser for free security advice.
To book your space for the Trickster play, or for further details, call 01372 474398 or email communitysafety@elmbridge.gov.uk The play will also be held at the Claygate Centre for Retired People at 2pm and all are welcome.
