An amateur photographer beat thousands of people to win first prize in a national competition.

Terry Richer, from Sutton, is one of the three overall winners from this years Currys Great British Summer photography competition, who received a £5,000 holiday and top of the range Panasonic camera equipment.

Mr Richer entered a picture of St Paul’s cathedral reflected in a puddle in the competition.

He said: “Sometime after the rain had stopped, I walked to St Pauls and was inspired by the reflection in this puddle, I framed the shot, and waited for a gap in the people walking past. As there was very little natural colour, I converted the picture to monochrome.”

Mr Richer was presented with his winning prize by guest judge, supermodel and photography enthusiast Jodie Kidd.

Niall O’Keefe, UK Marketing Director said; ‘We’ve been really impressed with the quality of the photographs entered in this year’s competition and to reach the final is a fantastic achievement let alone winning.”

The competition run by Currys in conjunction with News International and Panasonic, received thousands of entries over the summer.

Judges selected 40 finalists, whose images were on display at the Music Room Gallery in Central London for a week in September.
