Tamils will voice their anger at the Sri Lankan Government in a special meeting next month.
Merton’s Tamil community has organised a public meeting to be held on October 2 at Merton Hall in Kingston Road, Wimbledon.
Community leaders are calling for the British Government to impose sanctions on Sri Lanka. Wimbledon MP Stephen Hammond has been invited to the event.
Thousands of Sri Lanka’s Tamils, an ethnic minority based in the north of the country, have been locked up in internment camps following the end of the country’s civil war. The Government has said the action is needed to weed out terrorists in the Tamil population, but its opponents describe the camps as "squalid, cramped and inhumane".
