Roehampton University is running free creative industry courses to help local professionals beat the recession.

More than 1,700 free places are on offer for short courses in everything from journalism to media production.

The 40 one-day courses include “Presenting to Camera for TV and Internet” and “Blogging, Twittering and Social Networking”.

The courses are aimed at people who are unemployed, working part-time or recently graduated.

According to the university, London’s creative sector faces a training shortfall of around 64 per cent.

Paul Sutton, principal lecturer in film, said: “As the recession continues to impact on UK industries, including the higher education sector, Roehampton University is keen to help drive the UK economy out of the recession in a direct and resourceful way.”
