More materials may be collected at on-street recycling centres, if new plans from the council get the go-ahead.
Sutton Council is planning to add 29 additional bins for Tetra Pak cartons, batteries, textiles and foil to 17 sites across the borough, in a bid encourage more residents to use the recycle centres.
The proposals will go to all six local committees in Sutton this month, where residents will be asked to have their say.
Councillor Colin Hall, executive member for environment on Sutton Council, said: “We carried out surveys on recycling centres earlier this year and also get regular feedback from the public.
“The resounding message was that people wanted to recycle more materials, like batteries and drinks cartons, and that some residents were frustrated that the centres were not within easy reach of their homes.
“These proposals would answer both these calls, with a better spread of recycling centres across the borough and a far bigger range of materials for collection.
“We now want to know what our residents think, and will be asking them to tell us at the local committee meetings this month.”
The council is also proposing to remove seven small recycling centres and replace them with five new sites, with a greater range of recycling banks at Sutton Arena, Hackbridge Station, Diamond Riding Centre in Carshalton Beeches, Rosehill, and Banstead Road in Carshalton.
There are 31 neighbourhood recycling centres across Sutton on streets, in car parks, outside council buildings and in supermarkets.
The proposals will go before the council’s Executive for approval in November.
