Darren Ambrose gave Crystal Palace their first home league win of the season as the Eagles beat Derby County 1-0 at Selhurst Park.
Captain Shaun Derry, making his 500th career appearance, claimed the assist with a header Ambrose raced on to before flicking the ball past Stephen Bywater.
Johnny Ertl hit the crossbar for Palace after the goal but it was Julian Speroni who Palace had to thank for preserving their lead.
The keeper, who was only booked in the first half when he picked the ball up outside his area, made two world-class saves from Rob Hulse and Kris Commons late on.
In the end Palace were worthy of their victory and banished the ghost of last week’s mauling by Scunthorpe United.
