This was not a very entertaining game to watch, but was very hard fought by two teams desperate for a win to move them out of the bottom half of the table.
It was the Police despite the uphill slope who created the first scoring chances. A Lee Gledhill 25 yard free kick was inches over the bar.
Soon afterwards a good cross from Chris Sharpling was met by Gary Drewett whose shot was just wide.
Fleet Town then began to dominate the game and should have opened the scoring but their weak finishing along with great Police defending kept the ball out of the Police net. Leigh Rumbold from 8 yards out volleyed straight into the hands of Mo Maan the Police goal keeper.
Steve Noakes found himself unmarked with the ball and from 12 yards out struck his shot well wide.
Worse was to come as the Police cleared three shots of their own goal line in as many seconds.
The Police weathered the storm and came back with a vengeance in the closing minutes of the first half. A Lee Gledhill cross found James Greenaway whose shot was blocked by Lyall Beazley making his debut appearance at the Fleet goalkeeper.
Finally on 42 minutes a cross from Craig Brown was picked up by striker Chris Sharpling, he steadied himself, cut inside before driving the ball from 12 yards into the far corner of the Fleet goal to open the scoring. A very good time to score!
With the advantage of a downhill slope and a goal up the Police had a disastrous start to the 2nd half.
Within 5 minutes Police Central Defender Craig Wilkins was sent off for a professional foul on Fleet forward Joe Nwoke just inside the Police penalty area.
Eddie Smith made no mistake with his penalty spot kick to put the scores equal. The Police already struggling with their normal 2 centre backs Steve Sutherland and Nicky Humphrey out injured were forced to bring off striker Craig Carley and replace him with defender Vernon Francis.
Fleet Town pressed home their advantage with an extra player but once again missed chances.
Nwoko had a 6 yard shot well saved by Mo Maan and Eddie Smith headed wide from 8 yards out.
The Police to their credit fought back. Captain James Greenaway came up for a Lee Gledhill well taken long corner but his goal bound header from 3 yards out was brilliantly pushed around the post by Beazley in the Fleet Town goal.
The Police need to get back into their winning ways.
