John Crumplin has warned his Walton & Hersham side that he will not stand for many more lacklustre displays after the Swans laboured to victory over Whitstable Town last weekend.

Walton eventually strolled to a 2-0 win over the Ryman Division One South strugglers courtesy of second-half goals from John Boswell and Dave Tarpey to maintain their unbeaten start to the season.

But with a FA Cup second qualifying round clash with Enfield on the horizon, Crumplin has demanded his side step up a gear.

He said: “It was very sloppy and everyone was getting a bit too full of themselves.

“There was a real sense of overconfidence about the place and I had to knock that out of them at half-time.

“Just because we are eight games in and still unbeaten some of the guys seem to think they are better than they actually are, but we will not achieve anything if they go out there in that frame of mind.”

Tarpey continued his hot start with his third goal in two games since signing dual registration forms from Hampton & Richmond, and Crumplin admits Tarpey’s gains could be their loss.

He added: “Dave has come to us to try and get a few games under his belt and make an impression, and obviously we want him here as long as possible.

“But if he keeps scoring like this he is going to get noticed and we could end up losing him.”

Next up for the Swans is their cup clash with Ryman North side Enfield, and Crumplin reckons they are there for the taking.

He added: “It is a great draw for us as it is a winnable game.

“Some of the players have had their eye on this game for the past fortnight and it has been a distraction, but now it is almost upon us and we can properly focus on it.”

Walton & Hersham’s next three matches: Sep 26 Enfield (FAC, h), Oct 3 Whitstable Town (FAT, a), 10 Ashford Town (h)
