A 29-year-old Wandsworth man died in the loo after binging on heroin, an inquest heard on Friday.

IT consultant Jack Barrington-Holt was discovered in his godmother’s house with a wrap between his legs and a syringe in the toilet.

A post mortem examination indicated he injected a lethal amount of heroin while suffering from an undiagnosed heart problem.

Dr Paul Knapman, the coroner, said: “He was seemingly a man of 29 with no symptoms. Frequently people don’t know if they have [an abnormal heart] unless they happen to go to hospital.

He added: “This, together with rather too much heroin and alcohol may have made it worse.”

Westminster Coroner’s Court heard how Mr Barrington-Holt worked long hours after helping to set up an IT business.

On July 13 at 11.50pm, he came back to his Bramford Road home as normal and went to the toilet.

When he did not come out his godmother, Caroline Rogers, called ambulance staff, who broke the door down and found him collapsed on the floor.

Despite their efforts he was pronounced dead at 12.46am.

A toxicology report of his blood showed a small amount of alcohol but a morphine level of 0.27 milligrams per litre, which can cause death.

Dr Knapman said the cause of death was left ventricular hypertrophy and left ventricular abnormality in the presence of morphine toxicity.

He recorded death by misadventure, adding: “The sympathy of the court is expressed to the friends and family of Jack Barrington-Holt, who has died at the age of only 29.”
