Shop owners partied to protect their livelihoods in Lower Morden this weekend.
Businesses from Grand Drive threw the party to raise money for a new CCTV system in the street, which has been targeted by thieves and vandals.
A fun day at the Beverley pub in Lower Morden Lane on Saturday featured a raffle that raised £1,200 and an auction that brought in £336. So far, shops on the parade have raised £3,686 to fund the new cameras.
Last month thieves reversed a car through the front of the road’s Co-Op supermarket, causing £20,000 worth of damage before stealing a cash machine.
Organiser Canute D’Aguiar said: “Thank you to all those who bought the raffle tickets and also those who came along and supported our efforts.”
The CCTV system is expected to cost £16,000 - with the rest of the total to be met with contributions by the businesses and Merton Council.
