More than £4,000 worth of jewellery and porcelain figures were stolen by burglars who caused more than £1,000 worth of damage as they smashed their way into an Epsom home.

The burglars attacked the house in one of the residential roads off Woodcote Green Road between 6.30am on Thursday, 10 September and 8pm on Friday September 18 while the owners were on holiday.

The thieves stole 18 pieces of porcelain made by Royal Doulton, Coalport and Royal Belvedere Vienna, worth more than £2,000.

The majority of the porcelain pieces were made by Royal Doulton and consisted of figurines of people and animals.

They included pieces entitled ‘Old Mother Hubbard’, ‘The Milkmaid’, ‘Bo Peep’, ‘The Jester’, ‘William Shakespeare’ and ‘Angel on Horseback’.

Costume jewellery, ladies watches and cash were also stolen. The watches included an Omega Seamaster watch, an Ellesse sports watch and a 1960s, gold Tissot watch.

Detective Constable Audrey Cumiskey, who is leading the investigation, said: “Royal Doulton pieces are distinctive so if you are offered any porcelain figurines, jewellery or watches at a heavily-reduced price at this time then they may have come from this burglary.

“I would also appeal to anyone who uses internet auction sites or auction houses or who may be attending a car boot sale in the coming weeks to remain vigilant and to contact Surrey Police immediately if any items draw their suspicion so we can reunite the owners with their much-prized possessions.”

Anyone with any information is urged to contact Surrey Police on 0845 125 2222 quoting reference EP/09/4473 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111 if you wish to remain anonymous.
