Martial arts students from across London joined forces with Cancer Research UK in Wimbledon on Saturday to kick start the charity’s new breast cancer awareness campaign - Join the fight for women’s survival.
Warriors of all ages from the Fighting Fit school helped enlist the support of shoppers on the Broadway for the cancer charity’s fundraising cause.
Lydney Close resident, Gül Taris, who survived breast cancer after being diagnosed in September 2008, was among the fitness fanatics handing out balloons and the new, unique pink ribbon to passers by.
The ‘camo’ ribbon symbolises Cancer Research UK’s campaign, drawing attention to the role the charity’s scientists play on the front line in the battle against breast cancer, which affects more than 45,000 women each year in the UK.
An army of celebrities has been assembled to join the awareness campaign including actress Nicole Kidman, 60s style icon Twiggy, and broadcaster Gloria Hunniford who lost her daughter Caron Keating to breast cancer.
