Fire fighters have produced a guide to inform residents about plans to make the borough safer.
‘How we are making your borough safer’ sets out key information on the fire stations serving the borough, the emergencies local fire fighters attend and the equipment the stations house.
The guide reveals that on average Sutton’s firefighters are called to more than 2,000 emergencies a year. This includes fires, special services, such as road traffic accidents and flooding, and false alarms.
Aaron Watson, London Fire Brigade’s Borough Commander for Sutton, said: “Our firefighters are working harder than ever to make Sutton as safe as possible for local people.
“We would much rather visit you in your home and chat to you about fire safety, than have to rescue you from a serious fire.
“So many of the fires we see can be avoided and that’s why simple fire safety tips like being careful with cooking or candles, or putting out cigarettes carefully, can make all the difference.”
Although the fire brigade is best known for extinguishing fires, fire fighters also work on preventing them by visiting local people in their homes and giving potentially life-saving advice.
The newly published guide is available on the London Fire Brigade’s website www.london-fire.gov.uk.
