A young father was killed when the car he was travelling in smashed into a roundabout.
The heartbroken parents of father-of-one Fabio Horta, 21, this week paid tribute to their “lovely” and “hard-working” son.
He died in hospital on Friday after the Citroen Saxo he was a passenger in crashed into a roundabout on Longmead Road, Epsom, at about 11.55pm on Saturday, September 12.
The tyre fitter, who worked for K&P in Epsom, lived in Blenheim Road with 10-month-old daughter, Crystal and her mother Cherri Aldridge, 19, who left flowers and a letter at the scene of the crash.
According to Surrey Police, the driver braked hard leaving long skid marks on the road, but crashed into the wall edging the roundabout.
The driver of the Saxo, a 23-year-old man, also from Epsom, has been arrested by police and released on bail pending further enquiries into the incident.
A woman in her 20s was taken to hospital after the crash but has since been discharged.
Mr Horta’s distraught parents Maria Garcia and Manuel Horta, and sister Andreia, eight, of Lincoln Walk, told the Epsom Guardian of their pain.
Mrs Garcia said: “This is very hard for us. Fabio was such a good boy. He was good to everyone and would always help us out.
“We would speak on the phone every day and he would come here before going to work. He was the son every mother would wish for. A lovely, lovely boy.”
“Every Sunday he would come here to watch his younger sister, so I could go to work. We miss him so much.”
Fabio, originally from Alentejo, Portugal, moved to Epsom with his parents when he was eight, where he attended Epsom and Ewell Primary School and Epsom and Ewell High School.
Mr Horta said: “He spoke English very well and would help lots of Portuguese and Brazilian people from the community. They would all go to him and he was always very patient and kind.”
Fabio’s partner Miss Aldridge’s tribute read: “Crystal’s bedroom is going to have memories of you everywhere. I can’t believe that this has happened to the world’s most kind and caring person and such a wonderful dad that you are.”
A Facebook group in his memory was set up by a friend, Daisy Randall, and has 192 members, who left tribute messages.
Police are appealing for witnesses to contact the Surrey Police Collision Investigation Unit on 01483 639922.
