A 73-year-old woman was crushed against a wall by her elderly husband’s car, as he attempted to reverse into a garage at the couple’s home in Crossway, Motspur Park yesterday.

The pensioner had her leg broken in four places and was rushed to St George’s Hospital, Tooting, where she is believed to be in a stable condition.

Heavy traffic built up throughout the area following the collision, with police closing off the junction of West Barnes Lane and Crossway for half an hour while the woman was treated by ambulance crews.

Police and fire crews had to physically push the car away from the garage wall to release the woman, who became trapped just before 11.50am.

Wimbledon fire station manager John Prater said: "It looks like the lady was seeing her husband into the garage.

"Basically he clobbered her."
