Nearly 100 homes in Kingston were left without power for 26 hours, after a failure in an EDF energy sub-station.
Residents in Villiers Road and Dawson Road were told the blackout from 5.47am on Wednesday morning to 4.54am on Thursday morning was down to a faulty fuse on an underground cable.
Andy Cole, a prison officer who left for work at 5am and saw the street lights were off, said: “We have lost the food in our freezers. Our two boys haven’t had a shower for 26 hours.
“We were a bit annoyed because they told us they were getting specialists in at 5pm, after a whole working day. An apology would be nice, and compensation.”
A statement for EDF Energy apologised for the inconvenience.
In a statement the company said: “We do appreciate how difficult such a lengthy interruption to power must have been and we worked to reconnect supplies as quickly and as safely as possible.”
