A string of illegal brothels have been raided by police in Tooting, resulting in one arrest and several warning letters being issued by police.
Officers, acting on information received by the public, visited 12 addresses in the last month which had been identified as “nuisance brothels”.
Out of these, 11 were found to be operating as illegal brothels and police issued a written notice to every person occupying the premises warning them to cease their activities or face prosecution.
Similar notices were also served on the landlords and letting agents of the brothels.
Police have since carried out follow-up checks to ensure the brothels had stopped its activities.
During these operations one person was arrested for immigration offences and property was also seized.
Inspector Ian Burton, from the Tooting safer neigbourhood team, said: “The safer neighbourhoods teams in Tooting are committed to tackling the problem of nuisance brothels, which blight the lives of local residents, causing disruption and annoyance.
“Whenever these brothels come to our attention, we will endeavour to take swift action to ensure their closure.”
