A team of eight offenders have given something back to the community, by picking cleaning up two areas in Walton.
The team, supervised by Surrey Probation Service, helped liven up the area by picking up litter and cutting back the vegetation at the bridleway and footpath by Walton Park Lane and the footpath in Molesey Close, next to Hersham Golf Club.
Elmbridge community safety manager Peter Kipps said: “The purpose of this exercise was to open up the areas and make them less intimidating for members of the public to walk down. I think this has been achieved and our thanks go out to the offenders and partner agencies for completing the job.”
Surrey County Council provided the tools for cutting back vegetation, while Elmbridge Council’s environmental care division picked up the litter bags.
Angela Houton, Surrey Probation Service’s community payback development officer, said: “Once again members of the Elmbridge public recommended these sites for a clear up. The Community Payback team worked tirelessly over a number of days to noticeably enhance the two footpaths”
