Battersea Dogs and Cats Home wants to open a new cattery, replacing the cat house which has been in use since 1996.
The new facility will cost over £1m, and the home wants to raise this money from donations.
Following the granting of planning permission, the three-storey building will be completed in 2010, and will house around 1,300 cats a year in 90 “cat cabins” with views out of the glazed front.
There is also a maternity unit, enabling the staff to provide better care for pregnant cats and newborn kittens, and state-of-the-art veterinary clinic for sick and injured felines.
