Spice Village in Tooting High Street was visited by local MP Sadiq Khan on Thursday after being commended in a national competition.
Spice Village was voted the best South Asian restaurant in Tooting by local residents and went on to compete with resaurants around the country in the Tiffin Cup.
Mr Khan MP presented the head chef with new chef’s whites, complete with the Tiffin logo.
The Tiffin Cup is an annual event, organised by a cross-party group of MPs, the Tiffin Club, to promote and celebrate South Asian cuisine in the UK.
The organisers invited MPs to find the best restaurant in their constituency.
This year the competition was extremely tough in Tooting, with several new restaurants entering for the first time.
Mr Khan said: "The competition this year was incredibly strong.
"Spice Village did brilliantly, and should be proud of all that they have achieved. "Thousands of local residents voted and hundreds of restaurants throughout the country competed.
"Spice Village is a firm local favourite because of its excellent food and welcoming atmosphere.
"I am already looking forward to next year’s competition, which I imagine will be even more popular with restaurants and customers."
