Frankie Sawyer has warned Ryman Division One South defences that he means business after the Metropolitan Police striker smashed a much-needed hat-trick on Saturday.
Sawyer’s treble ignited the Met to a 4-0 win over visitors Chipstead, a result which hoisted the Blues up to tenth in the table.
And after an injury-plagued start to his time at Imber Court after a surprise switch from Carshalton Athletic, Sawyer reckons he is on the fast-track to success.
He said: “When I first came to the club I turned my ankle within about five minutes of my first training session.
“I wanted to make the right impression so I played through the pain and that was a big mistake.
“It made the ankle worse and it got so bad that I had to sit out a few games.
“But now I am back and it was great to get in the goals on Saturday.
“Hopefully I can kick on from here and I am confident that the goals will keep coming.”
Craig Brown added the other goal as the Blues brushed Chipstead aside.
And Sawyer reckons with players returning from injury, the Met could soon be back amongst the promotion candidates.
He added: “We have not had a really good start to the season.
“Confidence has been low and so many players have had to play out of position.
“We just needed a big result and obviously we got that on Saturday.
“Everything fell into place and everybody worked really hard and for the first time this season we created a lot of chances.
“Although we have not had the best of starts a couple of results and you are right back up there and that has to be our aim going forward.”
Met Police’s next three matches: Oct 3 Maldon Town (FAT, h), 10 Godalming Town (a), 13 Walton & Hersham (h)
