Spencer Collins admits he is targeting cup glory this season as his Walton Casuals side continue to battle on numerous fronts.

Having made the third qualifying round of the FA Cup for the first time in the club’s history thanks to last weekend’s 1-0 win over Selsey, the Stags are back in knockout action this weekend when they host Whyteleafe in the FA Trophy.

And Collins revealed he has set his sights high.

He said: “We have to be honest with ourselves and realise we are probably not going to win the league this season.

“For that reason I am more than happy to be playing all of these cup games.

“As far as I am concerned you can never have too much football - I would play two games every week if it was up to me.

“The cups are something we can have a real go at and it has paid off so far.”

Walton’s reward for their historic run is a Waterside clash with Staines Town in the next round.

And having held the Swans to a 1-1 draw in a pre-season friendly, Collins is looking forward to the showdown with the Blue Square South side.

He added: “We have nothing to lose.

“Staines will obviously be expected to win and they are a very good side.

“But we know most of their players and how they set-up so it will be an interesting game.”

One player who will not be turning out for Walton in that game will be Kyle Hough, who has returned to Epsom & Ewell after a short-lived spell with the Ryman Division One South side.

Collins revealed: “Kyle is not the biggest lad and he was finding it a bit of a struggle.

“He is a very talented footballer but I think the game was a bit too physical for him.

“He started every game while he was here and I had no problem with him and I wish him all the best.”

Walton Casuals’ next three matches: Oct 3 Whyteleafe (FAT, h), 10 Staines Town (FAC, h), 12 Dulwich Hamlet (h )
