Sutton councillors saw double last week after a new give way sign was installed beside its spitting image.
Conservative opposition spokesman for finance and value for money, Councillor Tim Crowley, lambasted Transport for London for a “ridiculous” waste of taxpayers’ money after the sign was placed at Langley Park Road junction, near B&Q.
He said: “This is an astonishing waste of money.
“TfL need to explain why this ridiculous spend was approved because residents will not be happy that their council tax is being spent on this kind of nonsense. I want answers.”
A Transport for London spokesman said: “The new give way sign post on Carshalton Road was installed by TfL last week to replace the old sign, which had been damaged.
“We needed EDF Energy to transfer the power to the new sign before we could remove the damaged one.
“This has now been done and the old sign is due to be removed in early October.”
