Allegations claiming Epsom and Ewell’s new mayor, Councillor Jan Mason, breached the members’ code of conduct last year were dismissed at a special meeting on Thursday.
Epsom and Ewell Borough Council’s standards committee met to consider an independent external report regarding a complaint against her.
The complaint alleged Coun Mason had breached the members’ code of conduct during a planning meeting in 2008. At that time she was chairman of the planning committee.
However, the independent report stated there was no breach of the code of conduct and recommended no action.
The standards committee considered the report and accepted there had been no failure to comply with the code of conduct on Coun Mason’s part.
Chairman of the standards committee, David Lowe said: “The thorough report, carried out independently of the council, found there was no case to answer and this issue is now closed.”
The standards committee is made up of councillors representing all the political groups on the council together with two independent members and an independent chairman.
Coun Mason became mayor this year.
