The first farmers’ market is coming to Surbiton this month, with a view to making it a monthly attraction if successful.
Fresh vegetables, delicious pies and cheeses will all be on offer in Maple Road on Saturday, October 17, between 9am and 1pm.
Two further trial markets will take place on the third Saturday of November and December.
A steering committee has organised the markets and wants any surplus money generated to go to charity.
There is also talk of food vouchers for the elderly to spend at the market, which has proved a success in Ripley.
Geoffrey Doyle, committee member, said: “A lot of people have been saying that Surbiton was missing something like this and I don’t like to talk about things, I like to get on and do it.
“Maple Road is the ideal location. It’s a fantastic road that will work well for this - with its maple trees, wide pavements and parking.”
