Clients who visited Kingston Citizens Advice Bureau (KCab) were helped to secure £1.2m in funding in total last year, the advice charity has said.
Pippa Mackie, chief executive of the charity, which started out as an emergency service in wartime, said that for every £1 of Kingston Council grant it received, it had recovered £3 for its clients.
KCab received £270,000 in grants last year and said 97 per cent of people were either very happy or happy with the service.
Mrs Mackie said: “We have a history to be proud of and the reason we have survived so long is that we have constantly adapted to meet changing advice needs.”
The CAB will celebrate its 70th birthday at a party on Thursday, October 8, from 1pm to 3pm at the Richard Mayo Hall in the United Reformed Church, Eden Street.
