By community correspondent Andrew Turner The debate continues: are exams really getting easier or are young people simply getting smarter? We aren’t here to discuss it but, whatever your view, it means that the exam results this year across the country have been better than ever, and Epsom is no exception. Blenheim High School, for instance, is celebrating a success story with their A-level students, as the school sends off their first two Oxbridge candidates. David Fidgett, a student of Physics, Chemistry, Maths and Further Maths at A-level, obtained straight A’s and made it into Oxford, continuing on to study Physics. Heading to Cambridge is Joe Roffey, a student of Maths, Further Maths, Psychology and Sport & PE, who has begun studying Computer Science at Gonville & Caius College. He also earned a very prestigious Merit in the Maths Advanced Extension Award (AEA), a result that is sure to make him a cut above his peers at Cambridge.
The GCSE results at Blenheim this year are nothing to be ashamed of either. Out of 240 Year 11 students, 89 A*’s were achieved and 223 A’s, almost one for every Year 11 student. Overall, the A*-C pass rate has increased 3% from last year. Clearly, this is a school that continues to rise and can be truly proud of its reputation for providing a good education to students of all abilities.
