CROYDON ATHLETIC 2 BURY TOWN 1 Croydon Athletic progressed to the next round of the FA Trophy with a 2-1 victory over Midlands team Bury Town at the KT stadium.
Goals from Ben Godfrey and Dan Moody secured the win that will see them play Ashford Town (Middlesex) in the next round.
With Bury arriving late because of traffic problems, it was the Rams who looked the better team in the early exchanges, with some good chances falling to Gary Noel and Ben Godfrey.
Goma Lambu and Tom Bolarinwa put in some dangerous sprints down the wing, but unfortunately for the home side they could not get the ball past the impressive Marcus Garnham in the Bury goal, who pulled off a series of excellent saves to keep the away side in the game.
With the scores level at half time, a Danny Waldren strike from 20 yards went just wide, and the hard-working Chris Piper in midfield kept grinding away for the Rams.
The first goal came in the 56th minute when Bolarinwa got a lethal cross over and Godfrey and the Bury defender got up to the ball together with the ball finally going in the net off Godfrey’s thigh to put the Rams one up.
Bury were unable to penetrate the solid Croydon defence, with Justin Gregory fighting for every ball.
Substitute Dan Moody latched on to a through ball in the 73rd minute and he made no mistake with an impressive finish to put the Rams 2-0 ahead.
However just one minute later the play went down the other end and Sam Reed put Bury back in it at 2-1.
Croydon continued to dominate the play however, and went through to the next round to play Ashford Town (Middlesex) in two weeks time.
