Refurbished tennis courts have made a “welcome improvement” at Streatham’s Wigmore Lawn Tennis Club.
The club, which has more than 500 members including the Surrey u14 champion, won a £30,000 grant from the Lawn Tennis Association.
The money was used to cover three of its eight courts in state-of-the-art synthetic clay. Work finished this week ahead of schedule.
Head coach Michaela Denkova said: “Clay is great.
"It's softer on your knees and ankles.
"The bounce is also slower and you can slide on it. That means longer rallies, so it's also more fun and you develop a more consistent player."
