Surbiton High School girls in years 10 and 12 are getting ready to launch their journalism careers in the neighbourhood pages. Responding to a school advert well over 20 have applied and been accepted on this innovative work experience scheme set up by Diana Jarvis at Newsquest. The girls will report on newsworthy items at school and in their local communities. They will also be required to meet deadlines and write articles every month for a nine month period which will show their commitment, skills valued by employers. Ann Haydon, Principal of Surbiton High School says “this is a wonderful experience for the girls such a scheme is hugely beneficial to our students enabling them to put their writing skills into a professional context".
