The battalion of a Croydon rifleman killed in Afghanistan will march through the streets of Croydon for a homecoming parade.
The Rifles, one of Britain’s bravest regiments, will march from the Mitcham Road barracks on October 29 to show thanks to the borough.
Fellow soldiers will return from their tour and meet the Band and Bugles of the Rifles for a small concert in North End, Croydon.
From there they will make their way through town and up to Katharine Street where they will be met by the mayor Councillor Margaret Mead at 1.30pm.
At Fairfield Halls a reception will be laid on for the soldiers and their families.
The Rifles have had one of the highest fatality rates this year in Afghanistan.
The regiment were under constant attack while they fought across Helmand province.
Earlier this year Rifleman Daniel Simpson was killed by insurgents while on a routine foot patrol near the town of Sangin in Helmand Province.
The 20-year-old father of one from the 2nd Battalion the Rifles, was killed by an explosion along with his brother-in-arms Rifleman Joseph Murphy.
Rifleman Simpson’s funeral was held at Croydon Parish Church on Monday, August 3.
Croydon police allowed use of firearms so fellow soldiers could give Rifleman Danny Simpson a 21-gun salute.
