The funeral of a young father who died when the car he was travelling in smashed into a roundabout was attended by hundreds of mourners.
Fabio Horta, 21, father of 10-month-old Crystal, died in hospital on September 18, after the Citroen Saxo he was a passenger in crashed into a roundabout on Longmead Road, Epsom, at about in the evening of September 12.
His parents Manuel Horta and Maria Garcia and girlfriend Cherri Aldridge, 19, were at the Leatherhead Crematorium along with over 200 of Fabio’s friends and co-workers, on Friday, to pay him their last respects.
The hearse arrived at the crematorium, followed by the mourners, with yellow flowers spelling Fabio’s name.
His coffin was carried into the chapel by Fabio’s family members, boss and best friends.
Miss Garcia said: “The service was beautiful and there were lots of people there to say goodbye to my son. I couldn’t say anything, but Cherri wrote a letter and asked for a relative to read it during the service.”
Fabio’s service was held at the sound of Missing you, by artist 1st Lady and I Believe I Can Fly, by P. Diddy.
Miss Aldridge said: “It was a good service and I wrote Fabio a letter, but could not read it. There were over 200 people there.”
Fabio, who was originally from Alentejo, in Portugal, had been living in the UK since he was eight.
The tyre fitter, who worked for K&P in Epsom, lived in Blenheim Road with daughter Crystal and her mother, Miss Aldridge.
Miss Aldridge said: “She really misses him. She wakes up at in the middle of the night all the time. She doesn’t stop calling for her dad.”
The driver of the Saxo, a 23-year-old Epsom man, was arrested by police and has been released on bail until November 13 pending further enquiries into the incident.
Police are appealing for witnesses who may have seen the Citroen collide with the roundabout or witnessed the manner of driving prior to the collision to contact the Surrey Police Collision Investigation Unit on 01483 639922.
