A man found dead at a home in a quiet road in Walton last night was stabbed, according to people living in the area.

A murder investigation is being carried out by Surrey Police after a 49-year-old was found just after 9pm at the two-storey terraced house in Hurtwood Road, on the Fieldcommon Estate.

Officers and Surrey Ambulance attempted to save the man’s life, but he was pronounced dead at 9.30pm.

The house has been condoned off and officers from Surrey Police were still at the address today carrying out investigations.

Neighbours, who described the residential road as peaceful, reacted with surprise a murder investigation was now under way in the area.

One neighbour, who did not wish to be named, said she was shocked when police told her the news.

She said: “It’s something you don’t expect to happen in a place like this.

“In general, it’s quiet around here - you don’t hear any arguing or fighting. You will say hello to your neighbours, but everyone keeps themselves to themselves mostly.”

Witnesses said four police vehicles and an ambulance arrived at the scene yesterday evening, with the ambulance leaving almost straight away.

The police presence continued into the night.

A detailed forensic investigation is being carried out and a postmortem examination was due to take place at Royal Surrey County Hospital today.

Police said they would be in the area for some time as inquiries continue.

A man has been arrested by Surrey Police and is still in custody at Staines police station.
