In a time of millionaire footballers, £40 tickets and £5 pies, you may be pleased to hear that you can watch some football for free.

Croydon Athletic have responded to the recession by offering free admission to three games in the hope of encouraging families to come out and support their local team.

The games on offer are against: Merstham (10/10/09) and Folkestone Invicta (14/11/09), both kick off at 3pm; and an evening game against Walton and Hersham (1/12/09), kick off at 7.45. The rest of the season, you will never pay more than £10 for a ticket at the turnstiles.

Croydon Athletic are currently sitting pretty in the Isthmian Division 1 South League, the eighth tier of English football, along with various other local teams such as Chipstead, Whyteleafe and Dulwich Hamlet. They are in 4th position with 14 points from seven games this season, having only lost once. They have already racked up an impressive 24 goals, so expect to be entertained!

Their home ground, The Keith Tuckey Stadium, is situated off Thornton Road, Thornton Heath, CR7 6DN, behind Croydon Crematorium.

So come and support your local club and you never know, you might just enjoy it!
