The River Wandle has been given a new lease of life after a group of volunteers joined MP Tom Brake for a litter pick.
The group collected 20 bags of rubbish – as well as a dining room table and exercise bike - from a stretch of the River Wandle as part of Community Service Volunteer Make A Difference Day on Saturday.
During the clean up some of the braver volunteers volunteers even got into the River to retrieve rubbish and other items that had been dumped there.
Mr Brake said: “Not only did we find a lot of rubbish, we have also removed some larger, and more surprising items.
“I would like thank everyone who took the time to come along and help out and also to Strawberry Lane Baptist Church who provided us with much with needed refreshments.”
