A man who raped a good Samaritan in her Tulse Hill home after discovering his girlfriend was cheating on him has been jailed for five years.
Portuguese national Luis Brito, 23, turned on the woman after she had offered him a place to stay while he found his feet in the UK.
He tied her up with shoelaces during the attack on New Year's Day and told her: "Your life is in my girlfriend's hands".
After gagging her with a sock and raping her he said: “Blame my girlfriend, she's been sleeping with other men."
Before raping her he had used the woman's computer to chat online with his lover in Portugal and became visibly upset, Inner London Crown Court heard last Thursday.
The court heard she had dumped him and emailed him photos of herself having sex with another man.
Afterwards he stole his victim's credit card and used it to travel the same day to Portugal where he confronted his lover, the mother of his child, in the petrol station where she worked, dousing her in petrol.
As he threatened to set her alight, her boss intervened and rescued her.
On May 3, 2006 in Portugal, Brito was convicted of aggravated attempted murder and jailed for 11 years.
He appeared in Inner London court last Thursday to be sentenced for five years for rape and false imprisonment and theft.
He admitted the charges, having been extradited back to the UK in July.
Sentencing him, Judge Grobel said: "This is a very serious matter. You subjected your kind and trusting victim to a long ordeal.
"You jumped on her, strangled her, you used a knife, you raped her at least twice, if not three times. You made threats to kill."
Brito will now be returned to Portugal to complete the 11 year sentence.
He will then be brought back to this country to serve the second sentence consecutively.
