We are delighted to announce the venue for the 2009 Green Guardian Awards Gala Evening will be London’s only luxury five-star, all-suite hotel, the Wyndham Grand Chelsea Harbour.
The hotel, which is generously sponsoring this year’s final awards, is undergoing a multi-million pound redevelopment, including the creation of a unique 600-seat event space with a panoramic view over the harbour to the Thames beyond.
This will be the memorable setting for the very first south London-wide environmental awards event, which is being held in late February.
From Greenwich in the east to Hounslow in the west, all winners from the Green Guardian borough environmental awards will be invited, along with a guest of their choice, at an unforgettable evening.
This will include a drinks reception sponsored by HSBC, a delicious three-course meal, the awards presentation and the chance to listen to an outstanding environmental pioneer — yet to be announced.
Environmentalists, business leaders, politicians and community leaders will also be invited to the biggest and most exciting environmental awards south London has ever staged.
The Wyndham Grand is proud to support the event and has a wide range of environmental strategies in place – ranging from using low energy lights and bottling its own filtered water, to taking part in the Thames 21 Beach Clean and the Treeathlon in Battersea Park.
For the past 20 years it has also had its own combined heat and power plant and sends its food waste to a bio-mass plant.
General manager Michael Schafer said: “We’re incredibly excited about hosting the Green Guardian Awards next year because we’re very passionate about raising environmental awareness.
“The awards demonstrate everyone really has a part to play in reducing the world’s carbon footprint.”
